Kerala: Don Bosco college shuts after students tear it apart
Kalpetta: The Don Bosco College management at Sulthan Bathery decided on Wednesday to close down the college indefinitely after the attack unleashed on it allegedly by the SFI on Tuesday.
Hundreds of students had ransacked the institution wreaking widespread havoc while a bunch of policemen remained mute witnesses, the college authorities said in a press release.
The incident was a sequel to the suspension of Jishnu Venugopal, a student leader, for conducting organizational activities in the college premises. There was only a small group of policemen who refused to act despite pleas from the teachers and management, it was alleged.
The goons destroyed 179 window panes, ten computers, 12 switchboards, water taps, chairs, office of the principal, notice boards, toilets and a window of the chapel in the college.
An elaborate meeting of parents and teachers would be held on Thursday in connection with the issue. The Public Relations officer of the institution said that the discipline committee had suspended Jishnu after a series of inquiries. Various political parties organized a protest march alleging a CPM conspiracy in the issue. Police arrested 13 persons in connection with the attack.
