Hyderabad: Days after ban, waste still burnt

Anyone violating the ban will face penalties of Rs 5,000 for burning small piles of garbage Rs 25,000 for burning waste in bulk.

Hyderabad: A day after the government issued a GO banning burning of waste in open land or landfill, smoke and fire could be seen on Minister Road from a pile of garbage that set on fire in the middle of the day. The fire was set in an open ground that was gated. Piles of waste in plastic had been dumped within the gate.

An official from malaria department who takes up fuming regularly in the area said, “The open ground has been made a dumpsite by locals. The garbage has increased the mosquitoes in the area as well, which is why they burn it,” said Mr K. Bhumesh.

Anyone violating the ban will face penalties of Rs 5,000 for burning small piles of garbage Rs 25,000 for burning waste in bulk, according to orders passed by the state government on Monday.
