Give us land, we'll give you power: Piyush Goyal to Karnataka

He alleged that had the state government worked in tandem with the union government.

Bengaluru: Squarely blaming the state government’s lackadaisical approach towards completing the Union government sponsored power projects in the state, Union Minister for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines & Geology, Piyush Goyal on Tuesday alleged that had the state government worked in tandem with the union government, the state capital would not face frequent power outages.

Speaking to reporters here, Mr Goyal said, “All we want is land from the state government to build power highways in the state. This is the major cause for delay in completing three major power projects of nearly 1600 mw of power that could be added to the state’s grid.”

"These projects are at Sumanahalli and Yelahanka in Bengaluru and Madhugiri in Tumkuru district. To complete 500 MW project in Sumanhalli, the union government needs land in 15 locations, 400 MW Madhugiri project needs land between Yelahanka and Kolar while to complete 765 MW project in Yelahanka we need land in more than 15 locations in Bengaluru. If the state government hands over required land for these projects, then the union government can complete these projects in record time," he elaborated.

Despite holding almost 14 rounds of review meetings to gauge the status of these projects in the last two years, nothing has moved, he said.
