Monsoon enters more parts of Rayalaseema

Heat wave continues in AP

Visakhapatnam: Though the Southwest Monsoon entered some parts of Rayalaseema on Monday, the heatwave continued in parts of Andhra Pradesh.

The weather office forecast that the heatwave conditions are likely to continue over parts of central AP during the next three to four days and that the Rayalaseema region will experience hot, humid and uncomfortable weather conditions during the same period.

The southwest monsoon further advanced into some more parts of Karnataka, Konkan, remaining parts of Tamil Nadu and some more parts of Andhra Pradesh on Monday, IMD said in its daily bulletin.

As per the IMD-Amaravati, Bapatla registered the highest temperature of 43°C on Monday, followed by Ongole 42.5°C, Kawali (42.5°C), Jangamaheswara Puram in Palnadu district 42.4°C, Machilipatnam 42°C, Nellore 41.8°C, Tirupati 41.8°C, Nandigama 41.7°C, Kakinada 41.6°C, Gannavaram 41.4°C and Amaravati 41.3°C.

Vizag city, which has registered over 43°C on Saturday and Sunday, recorded a temperature below 37°C on Monday.

Senior IMD scientist Karuna Sagar said parts of Kakinada, Krishna, Bapatla, Nellore, NTR, Prakasam and East Godavari districts experienced heatwave conditions on Monday. Some parts of the central AP will experience heatwave conditions for the next few days, he said.

The monsoon entered Sri Sathya Sai and Tirupati districts on Monday and is likely to enter Anantapur and Nellore districts late on Monday. There could be a delay in monsoon reaching other parts of the state, the weatherman said.

The forecast indicated erratic rain coverage in the week of June 30 to July 6. There has been a 54 per cent rain deficiency in the country since June 1 with a 53 per cent deficiency over south peninsula, around 80 per cent deficiency over central India; 10 per cent deficiency over northwest India and 53 per cent deficiency over east and northeast India.
