BRS Bets Big on Cash Transfers Before Assembly Polls for Hat-trick Victory

Lakhs of beneficiaries across the state will receive money transfers to their bank accounts before elections

Hyderabad: The BRS is lining up a slew of direct benefit transfers under its flagship schemes over the next few months to gain an edge among political parties in the state in the run-up to the Assembly elections.

The BRS government has lined up cash transfer schemes every month, with Rythu Bandhu figuring twice on the list, ₹1 lakh sop for backward classes, ₹3 lakh house construction sop for the poor and the Kalyana Lakshmi/Shaadi Mubarak sop, among others, between July and November.

BRS sources said the cash transfer schemes will begin with the disbursement of ₹7,500 crore under Rythu Bandhu to over 63 lakh farmers for the kharif season. The amount will be credited to the accounts of farmers from the last week of June to the last week of July, in phases.

In August, the state government will handover ₹1 lakh each to BC beneficiaries engaged in caste-based occupations, to enable them to purchase tools and procure raw materials to launch their units. The cheques will be disbursed by MLAs in their respective constituencies every month.

In September, the state government will disburse ₹3 lakh financial aid to poor to construct houses on their plots, in three phases of ₹1 lakh each for three months, in September, October and November.

The government also plans to disburse Rythu Bandhu for the rabi season in November.

Applications submitted for Kalyana Lakshmi/Shaadi Mubarak aid for marriages performed this year will be cleared and ₹1,00,016 each will be disbursed to beneficiaries from August to November, in phases.

Lakhs of beneficiaries across the state will receive money transfers to their bank accounts before elections in December under these schemes, with BRS leaders hoping that it would create a “feel good factor” towards the BRS and fetch dividends to the party in the Assembly polls.

Party sources said the plan is aimed at securing a ‘hat-trick victory’ in Assembly polls to retain power for a third consecutive term, a feat which has not been performed in South India since the 1980s.
