Tamil Nadu taking steps to safeguard rights of children: Dr Nilofer Kafeel

The government has been taking stringent action against companies, which engage children as labourers.

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has been taking effective steps to safeguard rights of the children in the state, said minister for labour Dr Nilofer Kafeel.

Addressing Anti-Child Labour Day function here on Wednesday she said the government has been taking steps to eradicate child labour and protect their rights. The government has been taking stringent action against companies, which engage children as labourers. The government officials, school students and others took anti-labour pledge in Chennai and other districts. The government has also engaged in raising awareness among the people on eradicating child labour.

Joining hands with the Central government the state has been conducting special training camps in 15 districts under National Child Labour Policy for Children. A total of 6,126 children are enrolled in the 295 special camps. More than 1 lakh children underwent the training programme. Many among them employed in state police department, private companies and education department.

Among others labour department commissioner R. Nanda Gopal welcomed the gathering. Principal secretary Sunil Paliwal and former minister B. Valarmathi took part in the function. A large number of people attended the function.
