Charminar cops to enforce no smoking zone
Hyderabad: Charminar police has taken the initiative to stop smoking in public places, particularly around Charminar.
The cops have started taking action against people who are found to be smoking cigarettes and beedis in public places in its jurisdiction under The Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act 2003. Any violation is a punishable offence with fines extending up to `200.
Charminar SHO Mr N. Buchaiah said that as part of this initiative, they have put up boards as ‘No Smoking Area’. Another sign reads ‘Smoking is an offence here.’ A team is roaming around to nab persons who violate the act. On Monday, 4 people were penalised, he said.
