Registration must for kindergartens: Collector Muhammed Y Safirulla

School buses to have safety stickers.

Kochi: District Collector Muhammed Y Safirulla on Tuesday made registration compulsory for all kindergartens functioning in the district. “The kindergartens should take registrations from the district Social Justice Department office before July 13. The registration process will start within a week,” the collector said following a high level meet held in the wake of the Maradu mishap the other day.
The move is aimed at collecting details of play schools such as ownership, student strength, working hours, transportation facilities for children and basic infrastructure facilities.

“The play-schools authorities should submit contact numbers of parents and teachers in charge for contacting during emergencies. Also they should cite the safety measures taken for the kids,” said an official. Meanwhile, the collector also warned that all school vehicles should have obtained ‘Safety Stickers’ by subjecting the vehicles to mandatory inspection of the Motor Vehicle Department.
Action will be initiated against those vehicles running without such stickers pasted on their hull from June 20 onwards.

“The stickers are being pasted upon finding it satisfactory on matters like vehicle fitness and experience of drivers besides other documents with regard to the vehicle. Vehicles of all education institutions from kindergartens to professional colleges should have the stickers pasted on them,” said an MVD official. A special training programme will be held next week for heads of the institutions and parents. “The aim is to make them aware of the steps to be taken to ensure safety of their wards coming in school and private buses,” the collector said. Regional Transport Officer Reji P Varghese said 90 per cent of the vehicles in the district were provided with the stickers. “A total of 2,123 school vehicles in Ernakulam and 640 under the Muvattu-puzha RTO have been doled out with the stickers after conducting inspections,” he said.
