Binoy Viswam, Elamaram Kareem, K Mani, Rajya Sabha papers cleared
Thiruvananthapuram: The nominations of Rajya Sabha candidates, Elamaram Kareem, CPM, Binoy Viswam, CPI, and Jose K. Mani, Kerala Congress (M), were accepted by the returning officer on Tuesday. The LDF petition against Mr Jose K. Mani and the nomination of a lone independent candidate were rejected, officials said.
The petition filed by CPM leader Suresh Kurup pointed out that Mr Jose K. Mani gave his nomination without resigning as Lok Sabha MP. In the second part of the nomination paper, Mr Jose has answered ‘yes’ in the column asking whether he is holding two offices. “In that circumstance, the nomination should be rejected,” Mr Suresh Kurup demanded.
He said that since the Constitution has not exempted MPs from the ‘office of profit,’ Mr Jose was not qualified. His complaint was rejected by legislature secretary V.K. Babu Prakash, who is the returning officer. The nomination of independent K. Padmarajan was rejected as he had not submitted some documents.
