AICTE orders closure of six institutes in Karnataka

The council approved only one new private college in the state to begin functioning from this academic year.

Bengaluru: Citing lack of infrastructure, poor facilities for students and fall in enrolments for various courses, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has directed six institutions in the state to close down this year. At national level Tamil Nadu topped the list with over 150 institutes from the state being directed to close down.

The de-recognition was directed as part of the Council asking over 800 engineering, technical and management institutes in the country to do so, refraining them from admitting students for batches beginning this academic year (2018-’19).

However the Council has asked the colleges to let students, who are currently pursuing courses in their respective institutions, to complete the same till graduation.

The black listed colleges in the state include four from Bengaluru (Nandi Institute of Technology, Mount Carmel Institute of Management, Institute for Technology and Management, RS College of Management and Science). The others are Appa Institute of Engineering and Technology (Gulbarga) and Smt. Danamma Channabasavaiah College for Management Studies (Kolar).

Two Govt engg colleges on hold
Two state government-run engineering colleges, which were scheduled to begin classes from this year, could not find a place in the list of approved institutions. On being asked why the department of technical education in the state failed to attain eligibility, officials blamed the election code of conduct for delaying official processes to ensure the same.

The council approved only one new private college in the state to begin functioning from this academic year.
