Three minors drown in Amruthahalli lake

The incident was brought to light around 2.30 pm on Sunday when passersby saw the bodies floating on the lake.

Bengaluru: Three minor boys, including two brothers, drowned at Amruthahalli Lake on Sunday noon and the bodies were later fished out by fire officials.

According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Aditya Raj (12), son of Madhav Raj, Ravi (11) and Naveen (13), sons of Nagesh. All the three were residing in Amruthahalli and studying at Sharda School.

Police said around 1 pm the trio decided to go for a swim at the lake. They ventured into the lake and soon drowned. The incident came to light around 2.30 pm when passersby saw bodies afloat and informed the police. They rushed to the spot along with fire officials and fished out the bodies.

“While Aditya and Ravi’s body had come on the surface and was fished out immediately, it took half an hour time to locate Naveen’s body, which was lying on the base. Though the lake had dried up and BDA was constructing a park, due to recent rains it had water in it. Being a Sunday no workers were present, otherwise the tragedy could have been averted,” said an investigating official. The boys had not informed their parents before going for a swim, he added. Amruthahalli police have registered a case of unnatural death.
