Telangana advocates protest has cops on toes

Police has also detained advocates in a few places across the state as a preventive measure.

Hyderabad: With T- advocates starting preparations for Monday’s “Chalo High Court”, police has stepped up security across the state. Section 144 is already in force around the High Court and additional forces have been deployed around the premises.

Police has also detained advocates in a few places across the state as a preventive measure. However, T-advocates are adamant that they will go ahead with their protest despite the police rejecting permission.

T-advocates has also condemned the preventive arrests and demanded immediate release of the advocates. “We are only fighting for our right, which is a separate high court for the state. The Union law minister also had promised it, but nothing has happened,” said Advocates JAC co-convener K. Govardhan Reddy.

“Arresting advocates and terrorising them is illegal. All of them should be released immediately,” said Jitender Reddy, president, Federation of Bar Associations in Telangana.

The advocates have also decided to seek permission from the High Court to go on mass casual leave if their demands are not met. The police meanwhile is taking no chances. “Outsiders without valid identity proof will not be allowed into the Court premises,” said a senior police official.
