Hope Ramzan will bring good news: Kin of woman abducted in Afghanistan

Since the news of her abduction broke out, prayers and support for Judith and her family based in Kolkata has been pouring in.

Bengaluru: Hoping for the return of his sister Judith, Jerome D’ Souza can’t stop himself from recalling the best moments he spent with his sister and family.

Hoping that Ramzan will bring the family good news soon, D’Souza said that the entire family is praying for his sister’s return from Afghanistan where she was reportedly abducted by terrorists on Thursday night while she was returning home from a social engagement.

Talking to Deccan Chronicle over phone from Kolkata, D’Souza, a philanthropist working in Bengaluru, said, “We are in touch with higher officials in MEA. A Joint Secretary-level officer from MEA is coordinating with us on Whatsapp. Also, the officials at the Aga Khan Development Network, where my sister was working, are in constant touch with us. My parents and sister are overwhelmed with all the support we are getting. Our gratitude and thankfulness to all. We are hopeful that our sister will come home soon.”

He said, “Judith used to take quarterly breaks. She visited us in March and was scheduled to visit us during Ramzan vacation. I am certain that my sister will be back with us soon.”

The family updated a family picture on their Twitter account on Sunday with the caption, “The last time we were all together, we want her back.”

Judith D'Souza, working with the Aga Khan Foundation as senior technical adviser – gender, was kidnapped along with two other people outside her office in Taimani area of Kabul on Thursday night. It’s been four nights since Judith D’ Souza has remained untraceable.

Since the news of her abduction broke out, prayers and support for Judith and her family based in Kolkata has been pouring in on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. Netizens from all walks of life have stood in solidarity with the D’Souza family.
