Hyderabad: The family of the Nizams has opposed the proposed naming of the Osmania University library after Dr B.R. Ambedkar on May 17, and has issued a legal notice asking the university to take back the decision. A representationhas been given to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi by Mr Mirza Mohib Baig, the great grandson of the seventh Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan.

Mr Baig said, “I recently came to know about the change of name of the library through a friend. Since then I have been working to stop the move. I have have sent representations to the officials through registered post, which would reach on Monday. I hope they will take action.”

The letter also picked up the issue of the changed emblem of the university: “The family of the VII Nizam is seriously offended that the Osmania Emblem was also altered by removing Urdu words from the original logo.” He said he apprehended that there was a serious conspiracy to remove the Nizam’s name from the university. He suggested that the library continue with its existing name, and asked the varsity to open a new library on the name of Dr Ambedkar.
