Coimbatore: From Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore and Chennai have cleared the first round of the ‘India Smart Cities Award Contest (ISAC)’ which is organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India under the Smart Cities Mission, a source from the civic body told DC.
As many as 33 smart cities have made it to round II of the contest. ISAC will identify and recognise innovative ideas and projects that are aimed at improving the quality of life of the citizens.
Cities which have been chosen to participate in round II must submit proposals for the award. The project proposals will be evaluated based on parameters like impact, innovation and scalability. A team of expert committee members including international experts and those from National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA), UN Habitat, Asian Development Bank (ADB) among other will evaluate the proposals submitted by the selected cities.
The award will be presented in three categories including Project Award, Innovative Idea Award and City Award, sources said.
Officials at the Coimbatore city municipal corporation (CCMC) are doing the paper work to submit the proposal for the textile city for round II, the deadline for which is May 15.
