Bengaluru: Bescom starts shifting transformers on roads
Bengaluru: Bescom has taken up the work of shifting transformers and electric poles erected on the roadside which were obstructing the movement of vehicles.
These poles and transformers were not only eating into the carriage way, but also posing a danger to motorists, several of whom have rammed into these poles and sustained injuries.
A senior traffic police officer said, “We were repeatedly asking Bescom to shift electric poles and transformers that were eating into carriageways and were a danger to motorist. But Bescom was taking time. Recently, we conducted a survey across the city and submitted a report on electric poles and transformers that needed to be shifted. Senior Bescom officers took up the issue seriously and started the work immediately.” He said, “The work began on Saturday and till Tuesday, they had shifted poles and transformers on 70 roads, and the work is still going on. Bescom officials have assured us that all poles on carriageway will be moved.”
A Bescom officer told Deccan Chronicle, “This issue kept coming up in subsequent meetings, but no action was taken. This time, we directed all officials across the city to shift the poles and transformers and the work is happening. We were told that a number of accidents were occurring because of these poles on the carriageway. We don’t want any more such accidents and we will assure the traffic department that no such pole or transformer hinders the smooth movement of vehicles.”
