Hyderabad: Couple ends life, fiscal distress suspected

Police said Srujan Reddy was looking after function halls owned by his sister Prasitha.

Hyderabad: A couple that was married for 18 years ended their lives reportedly due to financial difficulties on in Hayathnagar on Saturday. G. Srujan Reddy, 38, a merchant, and Sarika Reddy, 35, had a 12-year-old son, G. Parthu.

Police said Srujan Reddy was looking after function halls owned by his sister Prasitha.

On Saturday, Srujan Reddy’s colleague Ramesh called him repeatedly in the morning. When no one responded, he went to the house and found the bodies of the couple hanging. Function hall owner Prasitha was informed, and she called the police.

The family had moved to Hayathnagar 15 years ago from Suryapet. Sarika, a home-maker, travelled between her home and Kukatpally, where Parthu stayed with Srujan Reddy’s sister in order to have better access to school, Hayathnagar inspector Hayathnagar, K. Satish.

Sarika’s father Bhaskar Reddy said he had met the family last week, and they did not mention any disputes or issues.

Sarika’s cousin Sumanth said the couple was not facing any problems, financial or otherwise. “Srujan’s business was doing well and they were quite happy” he said.

Hayathnagar police has registered a case under Section 174 of CrPC (suspicious death) and began an investigation.

G. Parthu, 12, is not aware that his parents Srujan and Sarika Reddy are no more. Parthu stays with his aunt Prasitha at Kukatpally as it is close to his school., where he studies with his cousin. “Prasitha wanted to take care of the boy, so she asked Parthu to attend school in Kuk-atpally,” said Sumanth, Sarika’s cousin. “Parthu will continue to stay with Pratyusha. We do not know how to break the news to our little boy,” Sarika’s father Bhaskar Reddy said.
