Hyderabad: Polluter builds tanker as truck
Hyderabad: Pochampally police and the Pollution Control Board caught a cleverly disguised tanker that was transporting effluents to dump in the Musi.
Pochampally police received a complaint from locals about some unidentified were dumping effluents in the Musi.
After an inquiry, the police found an abandoned lorry (AP29 V 6594) parked beside the Musi spring. The truck was seized by the police but the driver and other persons escaped.
Pollution control officials were called in, and they collected samples of the effluents.
The transporter had adopted a new technique to hookwink officials.
PCB senior scientist N. Raveendhar said a rectangular tank had been fitted flush into the carriage of the lorry in such a way that it was not visible from the outside.
It had two plastic pipes, concealed behind a trap door, to let out effluents. He said strict action would be taken against polluters.
A Pochampally police official said, “We have registered a case and seized the lorry. We are trying to identify the owner and the factory from where the effluents were loaded.”
