Braving Maoists, Mangaluru cops help brothers meet

Last month, a Dakshina Kannada court discharged Javahar of Chhattisgarh from the charge of murdering an elderly person.

Mangaluru: Javaharlal Bhog of Chhattisgarh, who was discharged in a murder case and released recently, has finally met his brother Nohar Boda at Seon Ahsram on Friday. Last month, Dakshina Kannada First Additional District and Sessions Judge had discharged Javahar from charge of murdering an elderly person.

The incident had taken place three years ago. Javaharlal, who is 25 years old, is suffering from mental problems and Nimhans had certified that his mental status is that of a 10-year-old boy. Meanwhile, authorities in Dakshina Kannada decided to reunite Javahar (Johar) with his family.

Based on a letter from Dakshina Kannada District Legal Services Authority Member Secretary Mallanagouda Patil to his counterpart in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh to trace the familyof Javaharlal, the latter had sent the contact number of Nohar Bhog, Javaharlal’s brother.

When contacted, Nohar had said that he was unable to come all the way to Mangaluru from his village, near the Maoist-infested Sukhma district.

The officials, however, sent two police personnel – Head Constable Vijay Kanchan and Constable Akhil Ahmed to Kanker district despite knowing how difficult it was for outsiders to reach a village near Maoist-infested area.

The two men agreed to take the risk. They went through Bengaluru to land in Raipur. From there, they reached Javahar’s village.

“We wanted to ensure that the Maoists did not notice us. We disguised ourselves as residents of those parts. People cover their faces there and so did we. We met his brother Nohar and brought him here. Today he met his brother at Seon Ashram,” Vijay told reporters.

“We felt happy when we saw the two brothers hugging each other,” he said. Javahar is likely to be discharged from Ashram on Tuesday.

He along with his brother would leave from Bengaluru to their village on Tuesday night. District and Sessions Judge K.S. Bilagi appreciated the efforts of the two police personnel.
