Bangladeshi immigrants: Five granted bail

Those who got bail are Javed Inamdar, Mohammad Hussain Barfwala, Imrankhan Pathan, Nawazkhan Pathan and Mubin Bepari.

Belagavi: While a hunt for more illegal immigrants from Bangladesh continues in Belagavi after the arrest of 12 a few days ago, a local court granted conditional bail to five people arrested for giving shelter and jobs to the arrested immigrants in Belagavi city.

Those who got bail are Javed Inamdar, Mohammad Hussain Barfwala, Imrankhan Pathan, Nawazkhan Pathan and Mubin Bepari.

They admitted that they offered jobs to illegal immigrants only after verifying their Aadhaar cards and getting information that they are local residents. The five were unaware of the actual nationality of immigrants even as they worked for more than a year in slaughterhouses owned by them.

Sources said that at least 30 residents of Bangladesh were brought to Belagavi by agents, including the arrested local resident Mohammad Bepari. The agents collected money from all illegal immigrants to provide shelter, government identity cards and jobs in Belagavi. Most of the illegal immigrants are being brought in different groups from Bangla border over the last five years, sources added.

Within the next few days, the police are expected to arrest some government officials based on information from the arrested immigrants that they were able to get government identity cards through officials from different departments.
