Kochi: Governor spikes hike in retirement age

The university as per the KUFOS Act may ensure that the rules and regulations in force in the university are being strictly adhered with.

Kochi: Governor P Sathasivam has declined to approve the special resolution passed by the KUFOS general council to make the retirement age of the registrar to 60 from 56 or five years in the post whichever is earlier.

The order issued by the principal secretary on March 29 stated that section 67 (3) of the KUFOS Act 2010 makes it clear that “no statute passed by the governing council shall be valid or shall come into force unless assented to by the Hon’ ble chancellor. Since the Hon’ble chancellor has withheld his assent to the amendment proposal by KUFOS regarding the enhancement of the retirement age of statutory officers there is no need for any further directions”.

The order has directed the vice-chancellor that ‘in the circumstance, I am directed to inform that the vice-chancellor being the principal academic and executive officer of the university as per the KUFOS Act may ensure that the rules and regulations in force in the university are being strictly adhered with.

The order of March 29 also clearly states that KUFOS Act stipulate that “every statue passed by the governing council shall be submitted to the chancellor, who may give or withhold his assent thereto, or send it back to the governing council for reconsideration”.
