Four kgs gold seized at Chennai airport

A total of 3.15 Kg gold valued at 1.04 Crores was recovered from eleven passengers and seized.

Chennai: A total of 4.33 kilograms of gold worth Rs.1.43 crores seized at the Chennai airport on Thursday and Friday.

Syed Ajmir Haja (24) Mohamed Hussinudeen (36) Mohamed Hasan Khan (24) of Ramanathapuram, Sheik Syed (36) of Erode and Syed Ibrahim (44) of Chennai who had arrived from Colombo by Air India were intercepted on suspicion. Similarly, Shah Jahan (55) of Delhi who had arrived by Air Asia flight, Shonvignesh (27) of Sivagangai, Sadik, (46), Abdul Wahab Saharan (39) and Asik Raja(27) of Chennai who had arrived from Kuala Lumpur and Mohamed Sharkhan (20) of Ramanathapuram, who had arrived from Dubai were intercepted by the officers of Air Intelligence Unit at the exit of arrival hall on suspicion of carrying gold. On examination, they were found to have concealed gold in rubbery material in their rectum. A total of 3.15 Kg gold valued at 1.04 Crores was recovered from eleven passengers and seized.

On Thursday Night, Customs officials intercepted four passengers - Ahamed Gani (31) of Pudukkottai who arrived by Sri Lankan Airlines, Kalandar Naiana Mohamed (39) of Pudukottai, Shajakhan (38) of Ramanathapuram and Bakrutheenali (35) of Chennai who arrived by Indigo Airlines flight. On examination they were found to have concealed gold. A total of 1.18 kg gold valued at `39.15 lakh was seized under the provisions of Customs Act, 1962.

Further investigations are under progress.
