Chennai: Petrol bombs hurled at DMK functionary’s house
Chennai: Unidentified men hurled petrol bombs on the house of the DMK functionary at Anna Nagar on Friday morning.
According to sources, the incident took place at around 6 a.m. at the house of DMK's Anna Nagar zonal secretary, Paramasivam (45). While police are investigating the case, Paramasivam alleged that it was the handiwork of other party members with whom they had fought on Thursday night with regard to money distribution during the election rally.
Police said Paramasivam had returned home on Thursday night after the election campaign of the Central Chennai candidate near Aminjikarai area. During the rally a heated argument erupted between the SDPI cadres and the DMK cadres, which turned into a fight.
Sources said his car which was parked outside his house was damaged in the attack. Police who checked the CCTV footage at the spot said that six persons on two bikes came to his house and hurled a bottle of petrol after setting fire to it. Seeing the fire spreading, people nearby rushed to douse it. A fire and rescue vehicle from Kilpauk was pressed into service to bring the situation under control.
Based on the complaint by Paramasivam, TP Chatram police registered a case, police said, adding CCTV footage showed the suspects were wearing helmets and moving toward his house. “No casualties have been reported. The investigation is on,” a police officer said.
Assistant Commissioner Jagadeesh and Inspector Vinayakam visited the spot. A case has been registered and police are searching for six men.
