Thrissur: The Western Sydney University (WSU) will provide fellowships for Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) students interested in dual Ph.D programme of KAU. Students of KAU will also be given partial fee for pursuing master’s degree in WSU.
For the dual Ph.D the course works will be done in KAU and the research part at WSU. This was revealed by Dr. Lynda Taylor, pro-vice chancellor of WSU and Dr. Nisha Rakesh, research development advisor of WSU in an interactive programme held at KAU the other day.
Dr. Taylor explained the details of various opportunities for the students and the faculties at WSU. Two programmes viz., the joint masters and PhD and dual PhD can be taken up by KAU students, she added.
A dual Ph.D student could complete the course work in KAU within 18 months and the research work in WSU in the next 18 months for which a WSU fellowship would be given.
For the master’s programme, fee waiver to the extent of 25 per cent for KAU students has been proposed.The meritorious students doing masters course at WSU under this programme would also get the preferential treatment in the higher studies in WSU with fellowship.
KAU vice-chancellor Dr R. Chandra Babu introduced the collaborative programme to academia, students and PhD scholars. “The programme should be implemented in a time-bound manner so that the KAU students could get the chance to join at the WSU in this academic year itself,” the vice-chancellor said.
