Centre will reject KCR proposal: Telangana BJP

The TRS government, he said, has brought unconstitutional religious reservations to the fore and including them in BC list.

Hyderabad: The Telangana BJP has decided to take up cudgels against the TRS government’s proposal to provide reservations for Muslim minorities under the BC-E category.

TS BJP president Dr K. Laxman said that reservations based on religion were unconstitutional and Central government will not allow it.

“BJP will not accept reservations for Muslims since they are based on religion. We will oppose the proposal tooth and nail. We will fight it out politically. Just because it have numerical strengthen in the Assembly, the TRS will pass the bill. But we are in power at the Centre and we will not allow reservations for Muslim. Telangana society is against this kind of reservations,” Dr Laxman said.

The TRS government, he said, has brought unconstitutional religious reservations to the fore and including them in BC list. This will hit the rights of BCs and their share of reservations, he added.

“KCR has developed a sudden love for BCs in the state and is showering sops on them. BC Commission has been set up by the state government to study the socio-economic conditions of the BCs. But even the commission is toeing the government line and has recommended BC tag to some groups within Muslims,” the state BJP chief said.

Dr Laxman said there was no dispute that poverty does exist in some sections of Muslims.

“We support government programmes for their uplift. The government has taken up Shaadi Mubarak which is good. Let the government provide more financial assistance to them. We have no objection. Let them be given quality education, more schools set up for them etc. But they cannot implement reservations which cannot be implemented. It’s purely vote bank politics,” Dr Laxman alleged.
