Vijayawada: Paper leak rumours leave Inter students worried

The rumours were first head at about 8 am, an hour before the scheduled start of the exam.

Vijayawada: Rumours that the Intermediate first year chemistry paper had leaked rocked Sattenapalli in Guntur district on Tuesday, leaving students and parents alike worried.

The rumours spread so fast that the Board of Intermediate deputed officials to quell them. The BIE officials, along with police personnel rejected the rumours as baseless and ruled out any paper leak.

According to police, the rumours were first heard at the Shanti Niketan College in Sattenapalli and soon spread to six other colleges where the Intermediate exams were in progress.

The rumours were first head at about 8 am, an hour before the scheduled start of the exam. Soon after, students were seen enquiring about the alleged leak with their lecturers and officials. The students said that the government has decided to award grades in place of marks from this year onward and any paper leak will impact their overall results.

BIe regional inspector Z. Ramachandra Rao, Sattenapalli DSP V. Kalesha Vali Rao and other officials visited the exam centres at Sattenapali and scoured through the CCTV footage. The officials observed that the question paper bundles were opened after 8.45 am as per the schedule.

They said that there was no truth in the rumours after questioning the custodian of the papers, chief superintendent and other officers in the seven exam centres at Sattenapalli.

BIE secretary B. Udayalakshmi said that the Intermediate exams were proceeding smoothly in 1,430 exam centres across the state and students need not worry about rumours.
