Kummanam Rajasekharan to raise Sabari issue
Thiruvananthapuram: Former Mizoram governor Kummanam Rajasekharan has hit the campaign trail.
BJP workers accorded a rousing reception to him at the airport on his return.
He sent his first salvo at chief electoral officer Teekaram Meena questioning his gag order on Sabarimala.
He said the party would file a complaint against him before the central election commission.
On Monday, the CEO had said that the use of Sabarimala issue, invoking religious sentiments, could lead to disqualification of the candidate, angering the BJP.
The BJP's undeclared candidate in the state capital said not raising Sabarimala is like "eloping."
He said they were raising the right to profess one's religion and freedom to worship.
“Sabarimala issue is just a coincidence. If this is being allowed in Sabarimala, then the similar fate would fall on Malayattoor church and Beemapally. Sabarimala will be mentioned not for polarisation but freedom of worship," said Kummanam.
He claimed that CPM and Congress had become irrelevant.
“A complaint will be lodged against the CEO at the central election commission. Also, NDA representation will be there in the Parliament,” he added.
Later former state council member P. Krishnadas filed a complaint against the CEO. State president P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, general secretary Sobha Surendran, former DGP T. P. Senkumar and former ISRO chairman G. Madhavan Nair received Mr Rajasekharan at the airport. BJP workers took him in an open jeep in a roadshow with the accompaniment of several two-wheelers. In the evening, he called on RSS ideologue P. Parameswaran at Bharatiya Vichara Kendram.
KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran backed the CEO’s comments that Sabarimala issue should not be politicized. “This has been the firm stand of the Congress on the Sabarimala issue. But right now, I am not commenting on the CEO's opinion.
