CISF seizes bullets from businessman at Chennai International airport

Authorities claimed that he was told that he would not be allowed to carry bullets as per flight rules.

Chennai: The CISF officials seized pistol bullets from a businessman during routine check at Chennai International airport in the wee hours of Tuesday.

According to reports, Sabapathi, 51, an industrialist, was checking into a flight to Bangkok and had put his luggage for screening when CISF officials found a few bullets of .32 mm variety in his baggage. Subsequently, he was singled out.

Authorities claimed that he was told that he would not be allowed to carry bullets as per flight rules. Following this, Sabapathi argued that he had a licence for the pistol, but authorities were unmoved.

Sabapathi submitted a photocopy of the license and agreed to take back the bullets, which he claimed to have kept in his suitcase by mistake.

Police sources said that normally in such instances, they would give the person some grace period to produce the original documents. Airport authorities had informed the airport police who arrived at the spot to conduct an investigation and let him go.

During the course of time, the flight which he was about to depart in had left, following which he boarded the next flight, sources said.
