Chennai: Activists support CBI probe, say cops may have colluded in case
Chennai: Rights activists allege that apart from alleged political involvement, the police too, have colluded in the case. The superintendent of police and the deputy superintendent, Coimbatore, have been giving confusing statements, they say.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, P Suganthi, state secretary All India Democratic Women's Association, said that Superintendent of Police R. Pandiarajan was evasive to pointed questions. “He jumped the gun and said that there was no involvement of any politicians in the case. That despite the fact that the AIADMK functionary was arrested and expelled,” she said.
Addressing the press, R. Pandiarajan also said that the police only have access to four videos and four phones. “How can a scandal lasting over seven years have only four videos? The police can erase any evidence in a matter of minutes if they want to,” Suganthi said.
Meanwhile, “the accused have deleted several videos,” the deputy superintendent of police told the press, without corroborating the number of victims. “We have sent the phones to the forensic department to be retrieved and later investigate. Several women including college students and married women have been victims of this gang. We still do not know the exact number.”
Further, Suganthi said that the case could be closed with only four accused when actually a large nexus is behind it. “To reduce the impact of the case on the upcoming elections, the case may be closed with only four faces. Similar to Nirmala Devi's case, the nexus will be hidden and two-three people will be arrested,” she said.
