153 polling booths ‘sensitive’ in Tiruchy district

Efforts have already been initiated by establishing CCTV cameras and web cameras to monitor the situation during the polling.

Tiruchy: The Tiruchy district administration has identified 153 polling booths out of the 2,533 polling stations in 1,092 locations, as “sensitive polling booths” for the April 18 Lok Sabha polls.

Efforts have already been initiated by establishing CCTV cameras and web cameras to monitor the situation during the polling, besides additional police force and para-military forces will be deployed and micro observers appointed to watch the situation, said the Tiruchy collector, S. Sivarasu.

He told newsmen at Tiruchy on Tuesday, that there are 22,21,674 voters in Tiruchy Lok Sabha constituency including 10,84,110 male voters and 11,37,378 female voters and 186 transgender voters in nine Assembly segments across the district. The Tiruchy Lok Sabha comprises Srirangam, Tiruchy West, Tiruchy East, Tiruverumbur, GandarvakottaI and Pudukkottai Assembly constituencies.

He said 6,195 ballot units, 3,312 control units and 3,256 VVPAT units will be utilised for the polling in this district.

To a question, he said there are 12,158 polling personnel, 186 micro-observers, 27 flying squads and 27 members static surveillance team.

Further, nine-member video surveillance teams will be deployed for poll duty.

Mr. Sivarasu said an election control room is functioning at the collectorate here and the people can contact the numbers 0431-241457, 2414756, 241458 and 241459, if they have any complaints.
