Chennai: Students have tough time answering maths paper
Chennai: As many as five questions in six marks section including a compulsory question in plus-2 maths question paper on Monday has left many students distraught as they were not usually expected in public exams.
Teachers have predicted the number of centum will come down drastically this year as very few students can answer all the questions.
Last year 3,656 students scored full marks in the plus-2 board exam. Students who wrote exams in a school in Egmore said even the students who scored 190 and above can only get around 160 marks as the six marks section was very tough this year. “We could not work out all the one mark questions due to lack of time. But, the compulsory questions in six marks were unfamiliar questions,” one student said.
Students have to answer 10 out of 15 questions in the six marks section. Question number 55 was the compulsory question of which the students need to answer one of two questions compulsorily. The questions were asked from Vector and Calculus chapters.
“These two questions were not asked in any of the previous exams. So they were least expected questions and students who prepare for the exam by studying entire books can alone answer these two questions,” one teacher said.
Further, question numbers 42, 52 and 61 were also tough and unfamiliar.
“Usually, the questions from discrete mathematics and probability distribution chapters will be very easy. This year unexpected questions were asked from these two chapters,” the teacher said adding that the 10 marks questions were easy.
“Clearing the paper of getting 140 or 150 won't be a problem. But, they have to earn every mark after 150. The questions were chosen clearly to bring down the number of centum in maths. Still, those who prepared well can score good marks,” the teacher said.
