Youth Congress warns Sonia Gandhi of bleak prospects

The petition alleges that the current KPCC leadership is not allowing the second or third generation to come up in ranks.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Much to the displeasure of the KPCC leadership, Youth Congress leaders called on Congress president Sonia Gandhi and handed over a memorandum seeking representation in the Assembly elections.

The petition alleges that the current KPCC leadership is not allowing the second or third generation to come up in ranks, and it has left the party weak in several districts. The YC leaders cautioned Mrs. Gandhi that chances of UDF returning to power had terribly diminished given a plethora of scandals.

They feel the KPCC leadership handles things irresponsibly which might end up in an unbearable defeat for the party. A top YC leader told DC that the only solution before the leaders was to embark on a meticulous, balanced and transparent candidate selection process.

“It is not only the YC leaders who are facing the brunt. There are KPCC secretaries and general secretaries who were denied seats. The current status is that only those attached to the two factions in the party are getting seats which should not be accepted,” said a prominent YC leader.

He was referring to the way in which KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran’s trusted lieutenant Satheeshan Pacheni, party general secretary, is eyeing culture minister K. C. Joseph's Irikkur constituency in Kannur.
