Thousands watch as dog gets married in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow: It was a wedding that people will take long to forget.
In Panwara village in Kaushambhi district, a dog was married to a bitch with fanfare and grandeur that left thousands dumbstruck.
Basant Tripathi owns a dog called Shagun and for Shagun, he chose a bitch called Shaguni, who belongs to Jang Bahadur.
Shagun and Shaguni, in their respective homes, were given a bath and then dressed up in wedding finery. Shagun wore pink ‘clothes’ while his bride was dressed up in yellow ‘clothes’.
Shagun was made to sit in a car on Friday while over 1,500 baraatis danced their way to the neighbouring village where the wedding was solemnized according to Hindu rituals which included the exchanging of garlands and the ‘saat pheras’.
“There were more than 5,000 guests from both sides — most of them who had come out of curiosity to watch the event,” said Ram Bahadur, a guest.
After the wedding, it was time for bidai and the owners wept as they bid farewell to Shaguni. “For me, Shaguni was not a bitch but a daughter and we loved her dearly,” said Jang Bahadur.
