Telangana Shaadi Mubarak scheme: ACB inspects government offices to verify fund use

ACB chief A.K. Khan said the process will be completed in three days and action would be initiated if any irregularity was detected.

Hyderabad: ACB sleuths inspected government offices in four districts including Hyderabad to check if funds allotted under the Shaadi Mubarak scheme were being misused. ACB chief A.K. Khan said the process will be completed in three days and action would be initiated if any irregularity was detected.

There were allegations that money under this social welfare scheme was given to same individuals many times, or records made in that way by officials to pocket money for themselves. ACB has not filed any case so far.

Inspections were held in Hyderabad, Warangal, Nizamabad and Nalgonda. “We are trying to ascertain how the scheme is working. After that, we will take action,” said the ACB chief. The government had not asked for the inspections. The ACB has, on its own, taken the initiative to carry out the searches.

The TS government launched the Shaadi Mubarak scheme in October 2014, under which a financial assistance of Rs 51,000 will be given to needy Muslim girls’ families at the time of their marriage. In order to get the benefit, the annual income of the parents should not exceed Rs 2 lakh.
