Journo Nikesh Kumar to enter the fray

Sources close to Nikesh said his candidature was not discussed in the meeting held with Kodieyri.

THIRUVANANTHAPRUAM: Reporter TV executive editor M V Nikesh
Kumar met CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan at AKG centre on Saturday, triggering speculation that he will contest from Azhikode.

Nikesh’ father and former firebrand CPM leader M V Raghavan had also won from the constituency. Raghavan defeated CPM strongman E P Jayarajan from Azhikode by a margin of 1389 votes in 1987 Assembly polls.

Earlier there were reports that the journalist was being considered by the CPM for one of the Assembly constituencies in Kannur district. Sources said the journalist could have been summoned by the state leadership of the
party to seek clarification on the cheating case filed by a woman.

Since his name is being considered for the polls, the party wants to ensure that there are no serious charges against any of its candidates. Sources close to Nikesh said his candidature was not discussed in the meeting held with Kodieyri.

Nikesh's sister M V Girija who contested for the Kannur corporation as LDF candidate, lost the elections in November 2015. While Nikesh was not available for comments, reporters who spoke to him said that he denied having discussed candidature issue with Kodiyeri.
