GHMC garbage van mows down 1-year-old boy

Hyderabad: A one-year-old boy was mowed down by a garbage picking auto of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation at Khaitlapur in Kukatpally on Tuesday.

According to Kukatpally police, the incident took place near the garbage dumping yard at Khaitlapur at around 10 am. The victim identified as E. Sai, was the son of E. Srikanth and Sri Kanya. The family hailing from Bidar had moved to Narsapur in Medak district for livelihood.

The couple was into labour works and also used to collect old clothes and sell them. For the last two days, Srikanth has been visiting a dumping yard located at Khaitlapur in Kukatpally to collect used clothes.

On Tuesday, when Sri-kanth along with Sri Kanya, was collecting clothes, their son was standing on the roadside. Meantime, a garbage picking auto (TS 07 UD 0008) which was moving at a high speed hit the boy, said police.

The boy suffered severe injuries on his head and other parts of the body. The couple shifted the boy to Omni Hospitals at Kuka-tpally for treatment, but the doctors declared him brought dead.

The police said that a case was registered against the driver of the auto, T. Kishan and the boy’s body was handed over to his family after post-mortem at Gandhi Hospital mortuary.
