UDF bilateral talks with allies on February 18

The only Congress candidate who has been given the nod by the KPCC is Konny MLA Adoor Prakash who will contest from Attingal.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress will finalise the list of the candidates for the Lok Sabha elections before February 25 after holding bilateral talks with the UDF allies on February 18. The only Congress candidate who has been given the nod by the KPCC is Konny MLA Adoor Prakash who will contest from Attingal.

A meeting of the UDF held here on Tuesday did not discuss the seat-sharing among the allies. While the Kerala Congress (Mani) has demanded two more seats, Muslim League has sought one more. Those who attended the meeting included KC (M) chairman K. M. Mani, vice-chairman P. J. Joseph, former Rajya Sabha MP Joy Abra-ham, Muslim League general secretary K. P. A. Majeed and parliamentary party leader Dr. M. K. Muneer.

UDF convener Benny Behanan told reporters that the UDF campaign committee will meet here on February 19. “We will complete the bilateral talks with the allies on February 18,” he said. The UDF will hold a slew of protests against the LDF government’s 1,000 days in office as it has achieved nothing, he said.

The UDF opined that Kannur district CPM secretary P. Jayarajan and T. V. Rajesh MLA involved in the Shukoor case should be arrested.

It said CPM leader P. K. Kunjananthan implicated in the T. P. Chandras-ekharan murder case has been given undue consideration by the government.

It also said adequate compensation has not been given to the Ockhi victims.

The newly formed 26-member KPCC election committee will meet in Kochi on Sunday. Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala’s elder son is getting married that day.
