Bengaluru: Like other civic bodies, which control the water body, the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) too should be brought under the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, demanded leader of opposition at the BBMP Padmanabha Reddy, here on Tuesday.
At a special council meeting, called to discuss plans to quench city's thirst during summer, Mr Reddy said, "If BWSSB is brought under BBMP's control, issues related to water and sewage management can be solved." Recalling how the National Green Tribunal imposed hefty fines and gave an earful to the BBMP over the Bellandur Lake issue, he said, "The BBMP had to take it all because of the failure of the BWSSB and the pollution control board."
Ruling party leader Abdul Wajid said that BWSSB digs up even newly laid roads and demanded that the BBMP and the water board should have better coordination to prevent such issues. He demanded that a chief engineer from the water board be seated at the BBMP head office to solve all issues related water and sewage and to allow elected representatives to contact him with ease.
The Council sought to know action plan to mitigate water shortage in summer and updates on number of sewage treatment plants, unaccounted water and Yettinahole projects. BWSSB Chairman Tushar Girinath replied to questions raised by the Council and shared updated info on various projects.
