Telengana: Special Educators' Forum writes to NCPCR

The forum has also asked NCPCR to implement inclusive education by mandatory recruiting of special educators.

Hyderabad: The Special Educators’ Forum has written to the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) forum requesting them to ensure that they comply with the provisions of the Rights of Children with Special Needs (CwSN). The forum has also asked NCPCR to implement inclusive education by mandatory recruiting of special educators who are registered with the Rehabilitation Council of India in all states.

According to the special educators’ forum, the children with special needs have to be imparted education only by special teachers or special teachers in the ‘inclusive education mode’ system.

As of now, the School Education Departments of All State and Union Territories (UT) in India are almost nil when it comes to promoting Inclusive Education, except admission of CwSN. Most of it is left to Centrally Sponsored Schemes like Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) at Primary Level and Inclusive Education for the Disabled at Secondary State (IEDSS) at Secondary Level. The scheme has a chapter on Inclusive Education for CwSN with meager services.

Mr Kalpagiri Srinu, National Convenor for Special Educators forum said, “A special educator is specifically required in schools to work with children and young adults who require additional support in order to complete their learning successfully. These teachers may work with children with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, intellectual and developmental disabilities as they are emotionally vulnerable and have behavioural difficulties. A special educator can also work with gifted children.”
