Thrissur: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiring into the suicide case of first-year degree student Jishnu Pranoy at the hostel of Nehru College of Engineering in January decided on Sunday to slap charges of abetting suicide on college staff, including principal of the college.
The SIT members who met here on Sunday reached a conclusion and informed Thrissur Range IG M.R. Ajithkumar that on the basis of the investigation that started in January second week, they have decided to charge cases for abetting suicide. “I have been informed by the SIT members about the decision taken and they have not told me about any particular person or number of persons against whom FIR would be registered,” Ajithkumar told this newspaper.
Meanwhile, head of the SIT Irinjalakuda ASP Kiran Narayanan refused to speak to the media on Sunday.
K.K. Sreejith, uncle of Jishnu Pranoy, told this newspaper that they had demanded an FIR against Nehru Group Trustee P.K. Krishnadas and Sanjith Viswanath, PRO of the college and son of former Congress minister K.P. Viswanathan, vice-principal K.M. Sakthivel, physical education instructor Govindakutty, examination invigilator and teacher at the college C.P. Praveen.
“But, from what we gather, Krishnadas and Sanjith Viswanath will not be included in the list of accused and two other invigilators Vimal and Vipin, who were nowere in the picture, have been brought into the case,” Sreejith said.
He said that the government and the police were under tremendous pressure after Jishu’s mother K.P. Mahija decided to start an indefinite fast in front of P.K. Krishnadas’ house at Vaniyamkulam from February 21 demanding the arrest of Krishnadas, Sanjith and other culprits by slapping charges of murder. The student unions are also planning to conduct a Law Academy-model joint protest at Nehru College Pampady which prompted the SIT to take such a decision.
“However, without slapping charges against all the persons who mentally and physically tortured Jishnu on false allegations of copying during examinations on January 6, we will not withdraw from the decision to begin indefinite fast,” Sreejith added.
