Kollam: Kudumbashree all set to undertake civil works

The Kudumbasree Mission has sent 73 selected members for training.

Kollam: Efficiently utilising the workforce, Kudumbasree members who got expert training in building construction will soon be undertaking government contracts and other works in the district.

The Kudumbasree Mission has sent 73 selected members for training. Of them, 36 are at the Habitat and the rest with the Nirmithi Kendra.

“We intend to give them mason training, starting from the basic foundation of concrete and finishing works including plastering of roof and walls, scientifically," said Sadir Hussain Kudumbasree coordinator Kollam.

"In the first phase, we make use of their talent to construct toilets within the city under the open defecation free scheme. After this, they will be given responsibility to undertake house construction under the Prime Minister’s Awaaz Yojana (PMAY). The government is planning to construct two anganwadis in each panchayat, whose construction will be given to them after assessing their efficiency.”

Experts in the area provide theory classes to the members, who will be given training, beginning with the fixing of the first peg on ground to the construction of the foundation, wall building, fixing doors and windows, manufacturing cement blocks, concrete plastering, roofs and even plumbing.

The masons who have got expert training will also be given contracting licence to undertake works by the government and other local departments.

Kudumbasree intends to engage them in asset creation works as part of rural emplyment guarantee scheme (MNREGA) ensuring minimum job guarantee.
