Mysuru: Geetha Mahadevprasad, widow of former cooperation minister H.S. Mahadevprasad, will be the Congress candidate for Gundlupet Assembly bypoll.
This was announced by CM Siddaramaiah while releasing a book, ‘Maahasmarane Haagu Seva Patha’ on Mahadevprasad at his native Haalahalli in Gundlupet taluk on Sunday.
“Mahadevprasad was behind Rs 1,000 crore worth development projects in Chamarajnagar district. He strived to bring Kabini water to Gundlupet. The Malemahadeswara development authority became a reality because of his efforts. If the projects started by him need to be completed, Geetha Mahadevprasad has to win the byelection to the seat which has fallen vacant after his death. Ensuring her victory will be the biggest tribute people of the region can pay him,” the Chief Minister said.
“Mahadevprasad’s death is a personal loss to me as he was my close friend. He earned a lot of public support at a young age with his good nature and concern for the public good. He responded to problems of the people. He was very disciplined both in politics and his food habits. He used to deliver the work entrusted to him with commitment, sincerity and perfection. He will remain in the hearts of people of the state and especially Chamarajnagar. One can’t win elections with money. It is difficult to earn public love and confidence. He won Assembly elections five times. If he were alive today, he would have been in politics for another 20 to 25 years. He had all the qualities of an ideal people’s representative. He never fought with anyone, either in public or personal life. He had vast experience in politics. We won all elections in Chamarajnagar district under his leadership. He is a rare politician who will remain in the hearts of the people forever,” he said.
Meanwhile, after launching development projects in KR constituency, he said, “the government had allotted Rs 950 crores for the development of Mysuru in the past three and half years.”
Will retire if Charges are proved: Siddaramaiah
Rebutting allegations made by state Bharatiya Janata Party president B.S. Yeddyurappa, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah asserted that he was not aware of any diary entry made by Congress MLC Govindraju on money paid to Congress top leaders by him (Mr Siddaramaiah) to remain as CM. If the allegations against him were proved, he would retire from politics and would remain away from public life, Mr Siddaramaiah said.
Reacting to a question by mediapersons at Gundlupet, on the latest allegation made by Mr Yeddyurappa, the Chief Minister said, “Mr Yeddyurappa is a most corrupt politician. He is an expert in propagating lies. It is already in the public domain that Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepted bribes from the Sahara and Birla business groups. Let Mr Yeddyurappa ask for his resignation. There is not a single private complaint against me. I have presented 12 budgets and there is no taint on me. With the people's blessings, we will come to power again,” he said.
He added, “We will come up with an Act to continue Kambala as a traditional sport during the Legislative Assembly session on Monday.”
