AOC restrictions, colonising of area, say citizens of Hyderabad

The ministry's order was implemented in cantonments such as Allahabad, Mathura and Kanpur.

Hyderabad: The residents’ associations of Alwal, Yapral and Malkajgiri will take out a candle light march on February 14, Tuesday, in protest against the alleged high-handedness of the army in the closure of more than 12 roads in the AOC circle and the Golf Course areas of Secunderabad.

These roads remain closed even though the defence ministry gave directions on January 7 to reopen the roads in cantonments that were closed by local military authorities. The ministry’s order was implemented in cantonments such as Allahabad, Mathura and Kanpur. The roads closed in these cities were reopened following the order of the ministry.

“However the order is not followed by the Secunderabad cantonment. Rather, they are planning to close more roads. We would intensify the moment if a road is closed without providing us an alternative route,” said Mr. Chandrashekar.

The Malkajgiri traders association highlighted the problems in running businesses because of restrictions in AOC area, as also problems in commuting towards Bolarum and Shamirpet while the Telangana industrialists welfare federation has drawn attention to problems being faced by workers commuting to and from the city to industrial estates.

Principal of Valerian Grammar School, Father Mettu Johannes Reddy, said the number of students dropped from over 2,200 to about 850.
