Tanzanian girl attack: Forum set up for police, African community, says MEA
New Delhi: After a team of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), including the Tanzanian High Commissioner, visited Bengaluru, following the barbaric attack on a young Tanzanian woman by a mob there in which she was allegedly beaten up and stripped, a mechanism has been put in place for regular police-African student community interactions, the MEA said on Friday.
Police patrolling has been enhanced to ensure that such incidents do not recur, said spokesperson in the External Affairs Ministry Vikas Swarup.
The Police-African Students Community platform has been created as part of efforts to enhance security for the community besides ensuring that similar incidents do not recur.
He said that state authorities have assured the victim and her friends about full protection, support and a fair probe into the incident.
The Tanzanian woman student was allegedly beaten up and stripped by a mob on January 31 in a case of "mistaken identity" in Bengaluru after a woman was mowed down by a car.
Four constables, one inspector, and one assistant commissioner of police have been suspended, while a total of 11 accused were arrested in connection with the case, said Mr Swarup.
“Security for African students has been beefed up. The state and college authorities, as well as members of the local community, will be involved in coordination committees to handle issues related to foreign students," he said.
