Hyderabad: Society opens up on road closure
Hyderabad: The Air Force Officers Cooperative Housing Society at Vayupuri – Sainikpuri has stated that the road that has been closed is not a busy one, especially at night. Also, it will ensure greater security to the residents of the colony.
However, GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy has clarified that no permission has been given to any society (except for gated communities) to close roads, as they are maintained and owned by the corporation.
In response to an article published in this newspaper, president of the society, Wing Commander T.J. Reddy said, “There are three roads across Vayupuri Colony, which are 150 meters apart, connecting Neredmet – ECIL road on one side (south) and Sainikpuri main road on the other (North). They are three crossroads, of which the second one is the main link road used by commuters from adjacent colonies.”
“However, only crossroad 1 is proposed to be closed from 10 pm to 6 am and a guard will be posted at the gate to restrict entry.”
“This is not a busy road during these hours and if it is closed at night it will ensure security.”
“We have had cases of chain-snatchings in the recent past, besides death due to rash driving. Crossroad 2 will be open for the general public.”
The association has also installed CCTV surveillance systems at different points.
The GHMC commissioner, meanwhile, said, “GHMC has not permitted any community, society for road closure, unless it is a gated community. I have been informed that the same has been done in Nagole but GHMC has not given permission. The city roads are owned and maintained by the body and cannot be closed.”
