Hyderabad: Cops to counsel helmetless riders
Hyderabad: Violation of the helmet rule has not been brought under the “suspension of driving licence” category. Traffic cops will intensify their drive against helmetless riding and book cases against the rider as well as the pillion, and both will have to attend counselling sessions.
There were 1.26 lakh cases booked against riders including pillion riders for not wearing helmets in 2015. Over 50,000 cases have been booked and counseling given in the last two months alone. An informal survey prior to 2014 had revealed that only 5 per cent of two-wheeler riders were wearing helmets. It increased to 20 per cent in 2015 and is 30 per cent at present.
Pollution checking units to be updated or replaced
The existing road-side mobile pollution checking units will either be updated or replaced with latest four-gas based analysers and will be connected online with the traffic and transport department servers. This will allow enforcement personnel to crosscheck on their mobile phones whether a vehicle is in tune with pollution control norms. Tenders are being invited for implementation of the project. Additional commissioner of police (traffic), Mr Jitender, said that the existing units with two-gas analysers had become outdated. Even the data of Pollution Under Check (PUC) certificates issued by these units to motorists is presently not available with the Traffic or Transport departments.
RTA should be informed on address change
As per the MV Act, any change of address should be intimated and recorded with the concerned RTA. To facilitate commuters and also to record alternative addresses, an online facility has been created on the Transport department’s website on which intimation of an alternative address can be given till the change of address is actually effected in the official records. It can be accessed at transport.telangana.gov.in (click on online services and then click on alternate address entry). Providing alternative address will be helpful for commuters, mainly in case of emergencies.
