Free basics fallout? Facebook India face to log out

Kirthiga Reddy on Friday announced that she was stepping down from her position as managing director.

Bengaluru: Is it a fallout of the recent ruling of the telecom regulator that forced Facebook to shut down its Free Basics programme in India?

Kirthiga Reddy, the face of Facebook in India, on Friday announced that she was stepping down from her position as managing director and was headed back to FB’s US headquarters “in 6-12 months”.

But Reddy, 43, who hails from Chennai, made no reference to the Free Basics controversy in her FB post, rather saying that she had always planned to move back to the US. “Our two daughters start high school and middle school this coming year— which serves as a natural transition point to make this move back”, she wrote.
