Exam stress kills 17-year-old Mumbai student

Durvesh Deshmukh was a commerce student who was to appear for his exams on February 18.

Mumbai: A 17-year-old higher secondary student of VIVA college in Mumbai’s Virar died on Friday morning after he suffered a stroke, according to a newspaper report.

The only son of a fire officer and a teacher, Durvesh Deshmukh, complained of uneasiness and died at around 3 am.

Durvesh was a commerce student who was to appear for his exams on February 18, which led teachers and friends to believe that he died to due to exam pressure.

"The boy's parents informed us that he suddenly suffered a stroke and collapsed around 3 am and was declared dead before being admitted to hospital. A post mortem was conducted. Death due to exam pressure could not be ruled out," a police official told the newspaper.

His death has shocked his friends, who said he appeared completely normal the day before. "He met us last evening and was very normal. He often talked about exams and said that he wanted to score good marks," said one of them.
