19 students hurt in school bus accident on Bandar Road
Vijayawada: As many as 19 students of Nalanda Techno School were injured in a road accident on their way to school in the school bus on Bandar Road near Ganguru on Friday morning.
The bus in which they were travelling to school from Poranki has hit a roadroller that broke down on the road, according to Penamaluru police. All the students boarded the bus at pick-up at Poranki, where their residences are located. Police said that there were 23 persons including students, teachers, and attender in the bus when the accident took place.
Six-year-old R. Akshitha sustained a head injury and was admitted to ICU. She is out of danger as on Friday evening. Fifteen other students aged between 3 and 11 years too sustained minor injuries.
All of them were rushed to Boppana Hospital nearby and were treated immediately. The injured include, Ch. Ananya, 3, K. Sriraj, 11, M. Sriramya, 9, Dharani Chowdary, 6, Y. Sai Charan, 3, Bhargav Sai, 5, Lokesh, 10, Kavyala, 5, Akshith, 6, Jayanti, 3, B. Remanth, 11, K. Karthik, 10, Gayatri, 3, Uday, 4, Jathin, 6, and Samshitha, 6, apart from teacher S. Nagalakshmi and attender Dhanalak-shmi.
Driver L. Nageswara Rao too sustained inju-ries. He was booked for negligence by the Penam-aluru police who registered the case. East zone Incharge ACP Mr V.V. Naidu, Penamaluru inspector K. Rajesh, officials from the education department and local MLA Bode Prasad called on the children at the hospital.
Meanwhile, HRD minister Mr Ganta Srinivas Rao urged the district education officer to ensure proper treatment for the injured.
