Kerala: Board practical exam results same day

This has been decided by the Council for the Indian School Certif-icate Examinations (CISCE) that conducts the examinations.

Thiruvananthapuram: The practical examination papers of Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) class 10 and Indian School Certificate (ISC) Class 12 will be evaluated on the day of the examination in the school itself instead of at centralised evaluation centres hereafter.

This has been decided by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) that conducts the examinations.

Mr Gerry Arathoon, chief executive and secretary, CISCE, New Delhi, said that all practical papers in biology, physics and chemistry will be evaluated by visiting examiners at the exam centre itself. The marks along with the hall ticket numbers will be fed into the central server allowing the council to declare marks faster, said Mr Arathoon.

The council has also fixed the minimum pass mark for Class X at 33 per cent and Class XII at 35 per cent. These were 35 per cent 40 per cent respectively earlier. This is as per the recommendation of the Inter-Board Working Group (IBWG) of the Union Ministry of Human Resource to bring uniformity in the pass mark criteria. The CISCE had made changes in the question pattern of physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics examinations effective from 2018 as part of the periodic review of syllabus and textbooks. It had also changed the marking system and asked the affiliated schools to change their internal grading systems as per the pattern recommended by IBWG. This will ensure that all boards in the country, including the CBSE, will follow a uniform pattern.
